Aamateur Puerto Rican freestyle wrestler Mabel Fonseca Ramirez, 8 May 1972 born, in Guantanamo, Cuba competed in women's light weight category made a remarkable tally of four career medals; three of them were bronze from the Pan American Games in 2003 and 2007. In World Championship she won silver in the 59 kg division from the Central American and Caribbean Games in 2006.  

Fonseca came in limelight from 2002 World Wrestling Championships in Chalcis, Greece, where she won a bronze medal in the 59 kg division over France's Sandrine Seve, and then boasted for another one at the Pan American Games 2003 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

When women's wrestling made its debut at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, only Fonseca qualified as a lone wrestler for the Puerto Rican squad in 55 kg class and placed fifth in the 2003 World Wrestling Championships in New York City. In the prelim pool event, Fonseca defeated Ukraine's TetyanaLazareva in her opening match, but lose to Sweden's Ida-TheresKarlsson with a similar nature before reaching the minute mark. as missing a spot in the semifinals, Fonseca originally claimed the fifth position, but was banned for two years from the tournament after being tested positive for stanozolol, making other wrestlers behind her to upgrade their rankings.
