Goan meat curry recipe (1 cup serving)


  • Mutton cubes: 500gms
  • Thinly chopped onions: 4
  • Tomatoes pureed: 4
  • Garlic paste: 1 tablespoon
  • Green chillies paste: 4 chillies
  • Yogurt: 2 tablespoon
  • Chopped ginger: 1 inch
  • Red chilli powder: 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder: 2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder: ½ tsp
  • Garam masala powder: 1 tsp
  • Coconut milk: 2 cups
  • Bay leaf: 1
  • Cumin seeds: ½ tsp
  • Vinegar: 1 tsp
  • Vegetable oil: 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

Method of Preparation:

  • Wash and clean the meat thoroughly in the running water
  • Combine the salt, yogurt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garlic paste, coconut paste
  • Now, add the cubes of meat in the mixture and keep the mixture aside for around 2-3 hours
  • Heat the oil in pan
  • Add cumin seeds, bay leaf and sauté for a few seconds
  • Add the green chillies and ginger and sauté with onion
  • Stir and fry the onion for some time and add the tomato puree to it.
  • Mix well, add the coriander powder, salt, vinegar and garam masala powder
  • Add the mutton and mix well
  • Now, cover the pan and allow the mutton to cook for 10 minutes after covering the lid.
  • Uncover the pan, add the coconut milk. Higher the stove flame for 2 minutes
  • Adjust with the red chilli powder and the salt
  • Fry the mutton continuously till it starts turning brown and red
  • Lower the flame and cover the lid of the pan
  • Boil the mixture and cook the mutton till tender
